OP said she doesn't care if skiing is mediocre, she wants a "luxury resort" and a "cute preppy town." Only place in Utah that meets those criteria are PC/DV and conditions there are pretty bad so far this year. Plus OP said she doesn't want to fly. Did any of the PPs recommending Utah even read the post?

OP - I think you are going to have to drive farther for what you want. That or compromise on staying in luxury in a charming mountain town.

NP - Apparently it snowed today but it’s been terrible. Even Alta only has a few trails open. We are going in February so hoping things turn around by then. Next week we are gong to Jackson Hole which is one of the few places in the west with snow (and they got a foot today).

Snowshoe used to be famous for "guy in jeans and a sweatshirt skiing crazy out of control" but it's not so much like that in recent years. I only got hit by someone one time last season, and that was on a catwalk at low speed, and didn't injure either of us. I make sure to ski right behind DD so they hit me and not her, which paid off that time.

I wouldn't consider bear mountain hotel luxury. It is on par with a mid level Hilton or Marriott.

When we were there last February it was raining. I’ve only been there a couple times when it was legit cold.


Canadian PP here. Wow, I must have had bad luck -- been there 6-7 times in my life in Jan/Feb/March and it's always been crazy cold with strong wind. It's the only place I've ever earned frostbite (on the tip of my nose - quite the look!). At least the gondolas are warm... it's the first 1-5 minutes on the way down that chill the bones. Having said this, I haven't been in the last six years, so with climate change, perhaps it's the place to be these days. The mountain itself and the village are great.

Believe it or not, in PA - Bear Creek resort. Really nice hotel, restaurant and spa. Small mountain but ski in/out. 4 hours from DC.

They don't care. They just want to go somewhere and be pampered and not have to run elbows with the poors.

Look online at Snowshoe - Corduroy Inn is their nicest boutique type hotel. See if that looks nice enough for you. If not, you'll need to drive a little further.
Snowshoe is totally fine for us, and definitely ski wise enough if you said mediocre skiing is fine. We usually stay at Soaring Eagle which is also nice. Not sure how DCUMers ever goes anywhere as picky as they are.
