Donations for the gift are per student, not family. Each student receives instruction from the teacher. Each student adds to the teacher's workload.
It's optional. We'll give what we feel is suitable for that teacher that year regardless of how many students we have in the room.

We have:
Asked to leave it in the office for later retrieval by whomever asked for it
Left it in the teachers' lounge with a note on it.
Dropped it off early.
Asked the arranger to pick it up.
Sent it in with my child the day of...
Given it to a friend who also signed up.
Step it up, okay?

It really depends on what you are talking about. Something split up to account for the number of kids in the classroom, then you give twice. A party that really only needs a handful of donations, you do what you feel best. With one, if I see the list is empty, I sign up for several things if I can. And other times the list is full or it is stuff I cannot bring (anything that needs to be brought midday).

Yes. Especially since it sounds like the main problem is many parents of singles contributing nothing.
- mom of 2 singles who just gave $300 for teacher gifts by choice since it was optional. I was specifically thinking of supplementing families who might not contribute, for whatever reason. And now I will stop thinking about it for another year.

Two kids in the class means 2 contributions to whatever it is. Sorry, but if the class has 20 students and things are divided by 20, yeah, you have 2/20s of the responsibility if you have 2 kids in that class.

This is the correct response. If you had children of different ages in different classes you would give to each class, right? Same thing. Two people. Two spots in the class. Two people using up the party supplies/food. You give two things. Why do parents of multiples, in general, seem to want it be treated like some special case? Geez.

It's not hard for them to understand, they're just too cheap and lazy to contribute the fair amount.
Why are you guys getting so mad? Zero people have said they are unwilling to buy multiples of things.
As a room parent when you barely contribute or don't, where do you think the party supplies come from? ME. I had to do several games and crafts, all decorations and supplement the food and paper goods. This was a classroom of 25 kids and only a handful of parents helped donate. If you have two kids, you contribute twice, once per kid. You think its ok to sign up with two kids for one pack of party plates with 10-20 plates for $1.
