Serena is a lovely "S" name. Everyone will know how to say and spell it, and it's not so common that you'll hear it often. I associate strong women with this name too.

My daughter had a girl in her class named Selah -- and pronounced Say-luh. Kids and adults seemed to pick up on the correct pronunciation rather quickly, no issues.
So, I'd say, if you like it, go for it, and I think it's a cute name.

Oh, and I have another name starting with S in mind. Suri.

I have a Selah in my family. It's definitely See-la (like Sela Ward). It's a great name, but does not make me think hipster. Sadie, Susanna, Sage, Sloane, and Sienna all seem like good options.
