ASP clearly has some favorite motifs. Really wealthy families. Mother/daughter dynamic. Odd characters like Miss Patty in GG and the fortune teller in this show.
The show is beautiful visually. Love the costumes and architecture.
Agree completely with your review! The costumes are to die for - Midge looks absolutely gorgeous in those dresses and coats. Best fashion era, IMO. And the big, beautiful apartments - love. But it is too much of that slapstick-type banter that GG was famous for. It gets old reeeeeal fast.
I was mostly impressed with Rachel Brosnahan, having only seen her in House of Cards before. Her character on that show was *completely* different - very meek and cowed by men. I truly couldn't believe it was the same actress playing Midge. Fabulous job. I think she's the best thing about the show. The parents overdo it.
