As early as Thursday, people are saying.

I don't understand Republicans. They're pro-life and all about protecting unborn babies, but once the kids are born, they just **** all over them.

Magic 8 ball says: The answer is McCain (and Corker). They're both deficit hawks and McCain voted against the George W Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 because he said they would enrich the rich at the expense of the middle class and balloon the deficit. McCain has a conscience and some common sense.

Da**it. Car just broke down, just replaced two appliances in the kitchen. This is a bad time for a shutdown for us. At least we've already finished the Christmas shopping.

But don't you get back pay for the days you were off? My friend told me she's looking forward to a vacation.

Congress needs to decide if federal employees get back pay. They always have in the past - but who knows. Federal contractors do not get back pay as far as I understand.

Nope, we can only PTO or if you have none, you get no pay.

That's not what I heard. You always get paid (just with a delay). But ultimately, you lose no money - and get a paid vacation. As I said, my friend is hoping for it.

PP was talking about contractors. Is your friend a contractor?

I posted above about contractor pay. We had a meeting today and this is what I was told by my company. When I was working for a different contractor years ago during the first government shutdown, we did not get back pay but I had tons of vacation time saved. This go round I just started with a new company and they told me I will not be paid since I have no time saved up.

There are also lots of contractors that get fired straight out--like parking attendants or security guards for example. There are mom & pop businesses that rely on government employees and contractors like lunch counters. They could go under depending on how long the government shuts down.

I actually want it to pass.

It's like watching a car crash is slow motion.

Yes it is because it means that during a recession when tax revenues decline Congress will have to raise tax rates. It also makes it difficult for families to plan for the long term

The GOP sucks. I cannot believe they are screwing people for the sake of Trump.

they are not doing it for Trump. They are doing it for themselves and their rich donors. CBO estimates that this tax bill will end up hurting lower income folks. I can't believe R "Christians" are supportive of this.
