Subject: Do THE Ohio State University alums realize how ridiculous they sound?
Most people don't know this, but "The University" is a reference to the time when there was no Charlottesville. Mail just went to The University, Virginia.
Grounds is used the same way as "campus" elsewhere. It's not "The Grounds."

Haha, no they're not. I actually love how it annoys people who take jokes too seriously. I have an Ivy degree and the best way to weed out stuck up people is to watch them interact with our Ohio State friends.
We easterners don't understand midwesterners at all! It is very funny, actually (grad student at UW for a very long time, so I can even say Wes-kaan-sin)

I am from Richmond, and I’ve heard of alums calling UVA the University my entire life. Also, when they’re on “the grounds” of “THE university” they feel so at home being around all the other wahoos. Even Duke doesn’t call themself The University, and Duke is pretty pretentious.

Don’t worry, I got in, went to Chapel Hill instead, where people are a lot more laid back. But keep on keeping on, you’re the one who is defensive. Went to plenty of good parties at UVA though, it’s got its pluses.

PP alum here again. I guess we refer to it as “the University” when talking to others at UVA. Shorter than saying the full name perhaps? What I meant is that people don’t go around calling UVA the University like OSU’ers do. Also, yes, we call it the Grounds and not campus. It’s just school logo and not meant to sound prententipjs or anything, LOL.
No one calls OSU the university. You all don't have to work at sounding pretentious. It is baked in and just flows out without effort.

PP alum here again. I guess we refer to it as “the University” when talking to others at UVA. Shorter than saying the full name perhaps?
