I just paid 25k to have my old one re done, lifted a little for the beach. I don't feel like an idiot. I feel like I invested in something fun that serves a purpose.

I'd only buy my kid a Jeep if I didn't have any love for them. Those things are death on wheels. Personally know 5 people no longer on this Earth because of these crap vehicles.

My 50 plus year old neighbor drives one. I'm waiting because she will die in it. Drives like that's a toy. And the personalized tire cover is pathetic. Grandma, you can't turn back the clock.

I'd be embarrassed to buy my teen this or any other new car. I bought a used Honda that DD can drive if she does maintenance and pays for gas. If she wants to take it to college, she needs to make the car payments.

I don't think you understand how teens, or status symbols, work.

I had a teenage babysitter who shared a Wrangler with her college-age sister one summer when I was maybe 9 or 10. I thought it was the absolute coolest thing By the time I was driving age, I wanted a Jetta (although was MORE than happy with my grandma's hand-me-down Civic!).

Thank God my DH got that out of his system in his 20's. Worst car ever. Totally unreliable, uncomfortable, gets mysterious rattles in the first few 1000 miles. And very unsafe - I'd never let my teenager drive one.

I feel like they have always always always been the "fun summer car" as far back as I can remember, my neighbor had one in the 80s, in a cold cold part of the country- but boy July and August trips to the grocery store were much cooler in that thing!

Super uncomfortable and very poor safety ratings. My DH wanted this car recently and we did a ton of research on this and we went with something else.

Ha! My little sister (34) just bought that car for herself. Its very fun come summer beach vacation time but she is aware that she is in a vehicle without side airbags and has a higher rollover rate (although its gotten WAY safer)- which is not something I would hand to a teenager- nor would she.

Also, you pay for every single added feature in a jeep- things that are VERY boring and standard are add ons, its insane

This isn't new...remember the movie Clueless? In the 90s a Jeep was THE car to have in high school.

Hopefully safety is better. I personally know quite a few people who flipped these in the 90s.
