Granola bars and water bottles. Sometimes we have back to back classes and can't leave the classroom for 3 or more hours. During the 5 minute break, a bar and water is sometimes necessary.

Teacher here...the basket sounds thoughtful and I’m sure the teacher will love it!

I am a teacher and would be happy with any of the gifts, even filler, mentioned.

It is true that I don't need another #1 Teacher coffee mug but even so. (I would love an insulated thermos mug though!)

A gift basket with sharpie markers, dry erase markers, desk supplies and tissues, or any other classroom supplies, would be wonderful!

OP- Thanks for being a kind thoughtful person. Who knows why 22:06 had to trash colleagues. Let's assume most people appreciate your efforts. Thank you.

Geez. There are a lot of ungrateful teachers on this thread. If you don't like or need something someone gives, thank them graciously and then regift, donate or toss. You should be happy that someone is acknowledging you.

I give Amazon gift cards if I don't know preferences. Everyone can use that. And teachers can buy something for themselves or for the classroom. Add in a homemade card from your child. Done and done.

Op, your gift sounds fine.

Fillers?

Those are not appropriate things to do for a teacher.

It's amazing how many people on DCUM think they're so great when they do this. Meanwhile, the teachers and the rest of us inwardly cringe.

Read first post?
But don't read the thread?

This is not appropriate when responding to a post.

It's amazing how you think your response is wanted or valuable.

I've read the thread, my dear, and it's rubbish. As a teacher I wouldn't want anything except sincere (therefore infrequent) expressions of appreciation, like a little card or photo or letter. Something personal, that didn't cost much. A verbal thank you for something specific I did during the year is quite enough! As well as constructive suggestions on how something could have worked out better.

The rest seems like bribes, honestly.

However, you never know what teacher you are going to get. I knew one who pounced on all the gift cards, and threw away the rest, even the children's hand-written notes... in front of them.

Do you give your spouse cleaning supplies, too?

There’s no question that I need wipes and my kid’s teacher needs wipes. But you send those in regularly. The gift should be something to show your appreciation.

Honestly, as a teacher I spend so much of my money on these types of supplies for the classroom. I would be thrilled with a basket filled with cleaning supplies and tissues. -HS teacher (previous tissue poster)

To the OP - You put together a thoughtful basket and she will love it. It was kind to think of her child and is very personal. I’m sure he will also love his gifts.

Just to echo PP's sentiment, the best gifts I get from students are personalized. I am always impressed by how thoughtful they and I am sure the teacher will loves this gift basket for that same reason.
