Personally, I would rather that people be allowed to use the word "retard" to mean stupid, and not allowed to use the word "retard" to mean people with disabilities.
It's a character issue - you don't say things like that. I'm sure she's a nice enough woman about some things, but that is just not acceptable.
It's ignorant.
And what is this drivel that you are espousing?
Yes, it is ignorant, and she should apologize. Nothing more than that.
This is not drivel and it seems that you are very sheltered. I want people to stop calling students with disabilities "retards". If people want to call each other 'retard' or name a pudding 'retard', that is less offensive. What is offensive is calling a person with disability a "retard". You have not seen that happen?

You are absolutely foolish to think that only those organized by MCPC are upset by Dr. Docca's words. No involvement in MCPC, but my school's PTA and MCCPTA. Many of us are outraged.

Then you should run for BoE from District 1. Or, if you don't live in District 1, you should persuade somebody else to run, and then work for them.
Here's a map of District 1: http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Elections/Resources/Files/pdfs/maps/BoardofEdUpdWeb.pdf

So to whomever it is who keeps pushing the "shut up or run" sentiments, that's not how all this works. People are allowed to critique the actions of their elected leadership even when they don't want to run for office. That being said, I'd be surprised if Dr. Docca doesn't have a competitive challenger in her next election and she's far too tarnished now to get the teacher's endorsement.

Her language is totally unacceptable.
This is Donald Trump's America now. You're tilting at windmills.

I am wondering that too. Perhaps it's because Judy Docca just filed for re-election?
I think that it would be more productive for the OP to find somebody else to run for the District 1 seat against Judy Docca, or to run for the seat themself. But that would be work, whereas typing something up anonymously on an Internet message board is easy.
Thanks, Derek. Keep trying. You are getting paid the big bucks to cover for this public official who is a disgrace.
