That shows grassroots democratic passion, there are SO many new people running for office. Not something that will be super evident on the national stage but it is a fantastic sign for the next few years. 538 had an article awhile back that talked about the VERY strong correlation between new candidates of a party running and taking over seats in congress. Democrats have like more than 200 new candidates raising money, Republicans less than 30.
Trump is causing Republicans to start retiring but he isn't sparking a passionate group of new politicians running for office...at least not for Republican office.
Yup, just heard an interview with the mayor of Richmond. He said there were 41 first-time candidates on the House of Delegates ballots.
And, that the current status of the House is 50-50 with one district in Newport News that is outstanding. That's the one mentioned either here or on another thread where the candidates are only separated by 12 votes.

Even Manchester NH went with a Democrat for Mayor! Next stop Alabama Senate-good Democratic candidate vs. bigoted corrupt Republican. It's just a few weeks away.
+1
Won't matter if the Dem is Jesus himself.
They said that about the governor of Louisiana who ran against a well-known Republican. And the Democrat one. It's time for Democrats to start contesting the South again.
Ah, yes - "Vote for the crook. It's important." Worth a Google if you don't know what I'm talking about.

If only Trump's family had an ounce of courage to call awful family members out. They are cowards.

The election signaled a major shift in the gender of a body long dominated by men: Of the 15 seats Democrats flipped, all were held by men and 11 were won by women. Several of those women made history.
One became Virginia’s first openly transgender person to win elective office, unseating an opponent of LGBT rights. Another became the first open lesbian elected to the House of Delegates, another the first Asian American woman and two, both from diverse Prince William County, are set to be the first Latinas elected to the General Assembly.

Didn’t that paper endorse Gillespie?
