Huh? Where did that come from? Parents want their kids to be sent to their closest school. Diversity is not a priority.

I remember reading the board of educated voted to prioritize this over the other criteria like proximity when making these decisions.

It's not. Cold Spring also goes to Cabin John.

Thanks. Also, I don't think there's much wiggle room for Churchill. I don't think there are other options in that part of the county. Sure, the edges of a boundary could change I guess. Wooton's boundary seems a bit oddly shaped as another poster mentioned, but again not sure what the options are there either. Even if there are some changes I'd wager they're relatively minor and the worst case is you end up at a slightly closer HS that is compaable.

It's not certain yet, but Crown HS will likely open in Fall 2027, so the new boundaries should be announced in 2025-26. Wootton is one of the schools scheduled to be affected by the Crown boundary study, because part of Wootton's zone is directly across the street from the Crown site. But Churchill is not part of the plan.

As it stands today, most of the families who are in the Wooton boundary live closer to another high school. Further, I don't think this is anything to get worked up about. The adjacent high-schools are similar or will be similar with an infusion of Wooton kids.

Wooton's boundary is oddly shaped. I think it's in the far corner of its boundary and there's even an island to the north. MCPS could save so much on transportation costs if they simply redid this stuff.

Don't worry- it will be AT LEAST 10 years until kids actually get moved around IF they build a high school in Crown.

Can’t you ask for a Change of School Assignment? It is very tough for Cabin John middle school community to merge with the much more cohesive Hoover community because the Cabin John community splits into two seperate high schools. It is tougher for that community.

Where would RM put these kids? They are already overcapacity and their addition was just taken off track.

I think it's more like some RM and Wootton students would be rezoned to Crown.

When is Crown HS supposed to be open?

In 10 years probably. MCPS is ridiculously wasteful and slow in getting anything done

Feasibility studies to begin sometime in the next yr or 2, then construction will start 18 months after approval. Should be done in 5 years.

I guess RM will have valet parking by then to accommodate the portables.
