I agree with you, but keep in mind that when you still don't make your own money(or make very little), the presents from your elders are huge opportunities or opportunities lost. You can do something sentimental that costs a lot less with money attached to it or inside of it.

I'm with you OP! I think you were trying to be nice and some of the PPs were obnoxious and rude. You sound like you're trying to make an efford. Good for you!

Movie theater gift card is a good idea! I'm a stepmother, and when my stepkids were teens, the movie gift card would have been very appreciated. Be sure to include enough for them to buy popcorn/treats.

x1000 Team gear will make great gifts and the kids will love it!!! And I bet the grandparents appreciate the enthusiasm (btw include them, too, in the gear gifts)
Also, OP, for the future, our college students love having home team jerseys that they wear on campus for game days. Apparently it is a 'thing' and all the kids wear sports jerseys for their hometown teams. So our kids have a Washington football team jersey, Wizards, Caps, Nats, etc, jerseys that they wear on game days. This took us by surprise so it is a head's up.
If you want sentimental, could you do a small scrapbook for each kid documenting the trip or documenting the year?
