Very common for NYC kinder admissions.
No it's not. You should IW already know from when you applied to pre-K before it was too late.

here’s the thing: the differences are so marginal. every year, one school might be on top, the next it’ll be another. the only differences between them are location, single sex vs. coed, and school philosophy.
they all send an absolutely absurd proportion of their students (including myself) to ivies, etc. If your kid gets into one of these schools, and they do well, they’ll get into a good school. But i implore you: find a school where you’ll kid will be happy. Make that your priority.
I’d also like to add that riverdale sucks. Kidding. Sort of. No. Kidding.

Anonymous wrote:Urban Baby was a website like this one for NYC. This question was asked many times there:
Top Tier: Trinity, Horace Mann, Dalton, Collegiate, Brearley, Chapin and Spence.
Next Tier: Fieldston, Riverdale, St. Ann's
Then there was a tier below.
This may not be exactly right.

Some would also toss Brearley and Collegiate in there. A new money child will need IQ scores in the top 2-3% to get in, though, unless you are a celebrity. Cast a wide net to include Columbia Grammar, Berkeley Carroll, Brooklyn Friends, Riverdale Country, Little Red Schoolhouse/ ELizabeth Irwin etc.
Skip Birch Wathen Lenox.
The public magnets, like Hunter, Anderson, and Stuyvesant may be better schools in terms of peer group brainpower.
///How do these schools screen "new money"? I'm contemplating applying for kid for 1st grade, and she's within top 1% based on IQ score. We have the money to afford tuition. Curious how these schools screen and whether we're potentially aiming to enter at a decent entry point.
Entering any of these highly sought after schools in an off year- such as first grade- is next to impossible unless you are an A list celebrity
Tina Fey was able to get her DDs into one of these schools partly due to rec letters from Lorne Michaels, whose daughter went to the same school. Similar story with Drew Barrymore’s DD’s. They’re Ari Kopelman’s granddaughters.
That’s what you’re up against OP
True story. They are both at my DD’s school.
That Tina Fey needed rec letters for her kids at all is insane. She's TINA FREAKING FEY!
