For me, 15-20 min with reasonable options for driving, biking and transit. I’m willing to pay more for a smaller place to avoid spending half my day in a car.

I commute from West Springfield area to DC. I luckily only have to go in once a week and I pay to take the express lanes so my commute is around 30 minutes each way. Pre-COVID I went in more and took public transportation vs driving and commute was 45-70 minutes each way.

What you are willing to do to hold the desired job ~ that's the only "reasonable" commute answer.

Get out of your bubble. The vast majority of the world is not like DC, Boston, NYC, San Francisco, etc.

Np, 30 min walk, not drive.

If it’s a drive, more than 15 mins is unaccetavle

Long commutes reduce life expectancy.

45 minute leisurely walk is the max.

Nothing over 30 minutes. 30 minutes is even pushing it, IMO.

100000%

Agree. I don’t live in the DC metro area and my commute is 10 minutes each way. I often look at different job openings but for me, having those precious extra minutes/hours is ultra important to me. I get to exercise every day. I don’t miss family time. I’m not at stressed. I know many people are motivated by money but it would have to be a CRAP TON for me to sacrifice my well-being, balance, and happiness.

Mine is 75 min each way including kid drop off and pickup. I hate it, but there’s no good way to change it right now. I wish it was about 30 min less each way. Getting an hour of my life back each day would be amazing.

It depends on mode. If I'm walking, biking, or on transit, I'll accept a longer commute than if I'm driving (and especially if I'm driving in traffic).

I have a 10 minute commute and DH has about 20. The most I’ve ever had was 20-30 reliably. I would never do more than 30. An hour each way would make me an unhappy person.
