Prostitution and their customers should be legalized. Pimping should be illegal. Make it a freelance type of business and cut out the cartel.

Prostitution should not be illegal. Neither should Johns be illegal. However, both prostitutes and Johns should require a license to buy and sell sex. They should also be made to use protection and screen for STD.

Some of our stressed neighborhoods will face further nuisance. The council will also feel less obligation to be a business attractive city and get these women less soulless jobs, and continue their dumb pursuits like the outsized paid family leave (i'm for paid family leave/just not the insane way they've structured it) that again covers MD and VA and will drive business from our city. Grosso is such a millennial weirdo. Can we have some adults on the Council please?

If DC is taxing the transactions, then this would be a net positive for the city. I say, let the suburbanites pour in and spend money here.

DC will not be taxing the transactions, because prostitution will be DECRIMINALIZED (no criminal penalties for it) but not legalized and regulated. Grosso's bill is to decriminalize prostitution, not to legalize it.

Wait a second. You all seem to think that this Congress would allow DC to legalize prostitution.

That’s cute. And kinda sad. It’s an interesting though experiment. But in the real world, it is never gonna happen.

Well, so that men are forced to risk losing half of their net worth and custody of their kids for regular access to sex.

Well, because women are preyed upon in the industry. And legalization always leads to MORE trafficking rather than less

Which is why the Nordic model is the one everyone is adapting. Criminalize the buyers and pimps, not the prostitutes themselves.

Why do you hate women?

Exactly. It's in divorce lawyer's financial interests to ensure that a maximum number of potential clients are maintained. And since most politicians seem to also be or have been, lawyers, it makes sense that they'd look out for their potential revenue stream should they leave office. Very simple symbiotic relationship at work.

If men who's wives were unconcerned about their sexual satisfaction had a legal, discrete outlet, then there'd be far fewer divorces.

And that just can't be allowed.

It's kinda dumb that prostitution is illegal while some 18 yo girl can have sex on camera for $$$? Double standard in a puritanical country..

I've never understood why it was illegal to begin with.
