My parents helped me focus on intelligence and school. I was a biglaw lawyer. Now I am in house counsel with a happy marriage and family.

Bad advice.
No one told me what to focus on as a kid, but I quickly saw studying and academics as the path to success. However, you have to fit in too. Doesn't mean you have to be a girly girl with makeup and short dresses, just means you have to present yourself well (exercise, good haircut, clean clothes that fit well) and be able to talk to a multitude of people.

I'm happily married now to a guy who also values intellect and depth of character. We have 4 great kids. I have a great job.
I'm 45 now and see the marriages of some of my SAHM moms acquaintances unravelling as they and their husband grow farther apart intellectually. Or, so sad, they've discovered their traveling husbands have younger mistresses. I would have never guessed it at age 35, but it happens.

Honestly, I think you need to shake off the pity party and reinvent yourself. If you are a smart woman, get a better job, more education if necessary, take care of yourself, sharpen your image. All these things are not mutually exclusive.

OP - I agree with you. Feminism is poison that made women unhappy, men not wanting to commit or care, and made many children grow up in single parent households. everyone has a miserable job at some point. this can breed depression. Get a new job, you'll feel better and have a better outlook.

If you were advised that looks and fitness don't matter to men, you were advised badly. Most women who land great men are both attractive and fit and educated. It's not either or.
