OP, don't worry if your child doesn't think you are "cool." You are right in that it would be inappropriate for you to give it to her friend, unless her parents approve. It's not about whether you personally approve of transgenders; it's about respecting other peoples' boundaries.

It is indeed a pop trend. A couples decades from now, 99% of these kids who are identifying as GNC are gonna be married to opposite sex spouses with kids of their own, living completely normal cliched boring lives. And worrying about whatever dumbass pop trend their own kids will be torturing them with.

I would just tell DD that you threw it in the trash because no one needed it, but not intervene if *she* retrieves it to give to her friend. Not interfering with what your daughter does with her clothes that don’t fit is not the same as buying underwear for others kids. Would you be upset by it if it was a regular bra that didn’t fit?

If you go too tight and rigid with binding, you can have similar issues as women did with corsets in ye olde times. A lot of people just wear compression garments, like sports bras. We all know the dangers of sports bras.
