Holy cricket! That's a big one!

They're back! Just saw the first one of the season!

Are these the same as spider crickets? We have these hopping bugs in our basement that the plumber said are spider crickets. They are about 1.5 inches in diameter as adults, and much smaller (and slower) as babies. I just smoosh them with my shoe, but they splatter. Yetch! They are pretty gross. I use sticky trays, and that gets rid of lots of them, although I still see them at times. I don't know a thing about cave crickets, if they are different. If one hopped AT me, I'd have to move out of my house, or be hospitalized, or both. Sounds gruesome.

I'm feeling all oogie just thinking about those fuckers. We get field crickets and cave crickets and I HATE them!!! Every year the exterminator sprays outside and in our garage and puts sticky traps inside. It usually does the trick for 6 months-ish unless we get a lot of rain. I thought I was just paranoid thinking they were jumping at me because my husband said they haven't jumped at him.

Ohhhhhh those fast milipede hairy thinks are awful. Silverfish suck too, but at least they are small and easy to kill. Those hairy milis arw faster than a speeding bullet. They seem to appear after lots and lots of rain. Yuk!!!

They are by far the most disgusting insects! We moved into a home and after redoing our basement they were everywhere! I have lived with all different sizes. The large ones are so scary! my children call the cave creatures! The worst is when they get into your bedrooms and u wake up in the middle of the night to get a drink or go to the bathroom and you see one right in front of ur face....you better believe ur reaction will wake up ur home if not the entire neighborhood! We had an exterminated come out every couple of months for a year to spray inside and outside our home. They finally stopped coming in Sept of 2011 and now its April and we just saw our first baby one in our kitchen right by our basement door. Ugh I'm terrified they r back again. I'm waiting to see one more and I'm going to have an exterminater patch up any wholes around the exterior of our home.

The first year in our house we had a terrible problem with the crickets. My cat would dismember them and I'd find their big, fat legs all over the place.

NP here. I used to live in a basement "apartment" (what a joke) that was filled with camel crickets, which it sounds like OP has. Are they tan with humped backs? If so,they are camel crickets. (If they are black with straight backs, they prefer living outside.) I actually think I got PTSD from dealing with crickets that year. It was truly horrifying.

That said, I am totally a live-and-let-live type and don't kill anything, not even crickets, so i won't share here what I accidentally discovered works like a charm against these things.

That sounds like me!! I was to the point where I was hallucinating that every dark spot was a cricket and I would have a panic attack.

But what DID you do? You used pesticides didn't you!

12:04 called it right (at least for me): house centipedes. I cannot tell you how viscerally disgusting those things are to me. I get nauseous every time I see one -- I can take them out if I have a newspaper or magazine handy, most of the time, but sometimes they get away. They're very fast.

I've used hairspray and perfume against the giant mosquitoes in my FIL's house in Texas.

LOL! I'm willing to bet that you discovered this trick while standing defenseless in your bathroom, confronted by a silverfish, and deoderant was the closest thing within your reach. (I've done this with hairspray)

Ugh. Yes, ^^^those are silverfish (I call them Silverburgs). They are so hard to kill. Luckily, they don't really turn into "infestation" problems, just seeing them in the tub every so often. I haven't had enough of a problem to need it, but I've heard BORIC ACID helps and it's not toxic to humans or pets (supposedly). They are so creepy! They're flat so you can't really squish them.

I think they're more likely house centipedes, but drying things out is still good advice against these, too. Spraying crevices with pesticides will also help. In general, crawling bugs have more productive contact with pesticides than jumping or flying ones, for obvious reasons.

You might be talking about silverfish - they tend to show up near water so bathrooms (in the tub, sink, etc) and they come up your pipes. Try pouring some bleach down your drains at night. They pretty hard to get rid of since like the damn cave crickets, they can survive for a while. I think that exterminators have better luck getting these guys than the crickets though....
