does not contradict that few fought for the north. Few fought for the South as well.
Most stayed home. Not the least sensible idea, given what the war was like.

it is so stupid the band at Maryland stopped playing Maryland my Maryland because of this line in the song
Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!

This. If there's anything even remotely racist associated with it - and there is - it needs to go
Then the National Anthem needs to go.

It's an ugly flag but not a symbol of oppression ias nobody's aware of it's origins. Since the red/white and black/gold appear together in equal proportion, it makes me think that the flag was trying to bring sides together like Georgetown's the blue and gray.
Frankly it looks like an ad for mid evil times, but let's not waste the time and money to change it.
An ugly flag? B***h please. The Maryland flag is iconic. In every thread I see (on other sites) of people discussing straight flags Maryland is always mentioned as the best. It's probably the only one (save... maybe California and Texas) that residents of other states could identify

Some time after the civil war (1910? 1930?) everyone forgot it had confed connotations.
This is totally unlike say, statues of Lee. Were there statues of Lee before the civil war? No. Has anyone forgotten that they are about the Civil War? No.
Swastikas predated the Nazis, and they co-opted them. So therefore we should all start flying swastika flags because they predated them?
No.
Get another flag. Get another state sing while they're at it. Maryland my Maryland is racist AF. And the national anthem needs to go too because F S Key was a slavery advocate.
A. Swastikas in the other direction are still used by Buddists. IE the people who used it before it was coopted.
B. The Nazi swastika was the flag of a party and nation that murdered millions. The Md flag was the flag of a state that remained nominally loyal to the union during the civil war, though failing to provide many union troops, and not abolishing slavery till l late in the war. It may have been later used by Confederate sympathizers, but it was not a symbol of the Confederacy while it actually existed.
C. The song lyrics are so absurd as to be funny, actually.
D. We judge songs by their content, not their authors, the song is not a monument to Key (not sure why you didnt mention the Key Bridge? Perhaps you don't live here?)
E. I suspect you are actually a confed monument defender trying to troll.
