Maryland's population in 1860 was 687,049. Approximately 85,000 Marylanders fought in the war, of which 1/3 fought for the South (many crossed the line to fight in Virginia units) and 2/3s for the North. That's 12% of the state's population.

Massachusetts' population in 1860 was 1,231,057, with around 159,165 soldiers. That's also 12% of the state's population.

New York's population in 1860 was 3,880,726, with between 400-460,000 soldiers (numbers are fuzzy due to lack of proper record keeping). Assuming it's the higher, that's 11.8% of the state's population.

Georgia's population in 1860 was 1,057,286, with 133,000 soldiers. That's 13% of the state population.

Virginia's population in 1860 was 1,596,318 (including what is now West Virginia). Around 150,000 soldiers fought for Virginia (almost all for the South, but some for the North). 9.3% of the population (but remember West Virginia separated when the war began).

Maryland seems average compared to other states. Given the divided population I don't see any evidence that "few" fought for the North from Maryland during the Civil War.

* Note: official records on the tally of soldiers is murky due to lack of proper records, especially for the Confederacy as so much data was destroyed in the war and these are estimates based on research from a range of historians and government officials. And the Civil War is one of the most exhaustively studied historical subject there is.

It may have been later used by Confederate sympathizers, but it was not a symbol of the Confederacy while it actually existed.
C. The song lyrics are so absurd as to be funny, actually.
D. We judge songs by their content, not their authors, the song is not a monument to Key (not sure why you didnt mention the Key Bridge? Perhaps you don't live here?)
