the thing about Lewes that I don’t like us that the beach and the town are separated by the Canal. You pretty much have to drive back and forth.

I'm a DP by the way. Have fun being packed like sardines in Bethany and Rehoboth just so you can avoid the "trashy people" you love to look down on. I will enjoy the nice wide beach in north OC with super easy free parking and room all around me. The water was blue-green on Sunday and I was able to take photos of my kids by the water without anyone else even being in the frame. It's very easy to avoid the places where people get super drunk and rowdy and just enjoy the beach and bay.

I agree that the restaurant food is better in Rehoboth, but the views at Oc restaurants are a ton better. They have the huge bay and a bunch of restaurnats right on the bay.

We just got back from Rehoboth. We went on the beach at the end of the boardwalk, not right at the end of Rehoboth avenue, it did not feel crowded. You can also go to Gordon’s Pond and park there if you want less crowds. I like the atmosphere in Rehoboth ( gay parents with one child) and think the shops are nicer. Also nicer restaurant options than OC.

Lifelong OC visitor. I think the person who drew a distinction between OC below 30th street and above is spot on. I only go South of 30 to hit Trimpers with my kids from time to time. But I would never stay down in the lowest streets EVER. Too crowded, too trashy, too much traffic, too many day trippers. Too much of a lot of things. So I never got there. It is as closed to me as Bethany so it isn't really an issue. Above, there are lots of nice places to stay. No, it isn't as pretty as some Delaware beaches particularly along the highway but the beach itself is currently superior. OC had to spend lots of money replanting dunes and creating a more sustainable beach. And it has paid off. I definitely remember when it was just a skinny strip of beach and packed to boot. So, if you want lots of options for off the beach including a 20 minute drive to Assateague island, consider OC. There is actually a lot of money tucked in and around OC but it is SO big that most people don't know where it lives. But, more importantly, it is a very fun and friendly and laid back beach with lodging options at all price points that welcomes all kinds.

Rehoboth began attracting a large number of gay visitors in the mid-80s, when being openly gay was not welcome in many places. Those who put down roots are now a big part of the downtown Rehoboth community.
