I'm a lawyer turned writer. (Not the bestselling author kind, unfortunately.) I like the work a lot more but sure do sometimes wish I had a lawyer's paycheck. Paying off law school loans on a writer's income makes a person grateful for a well-employed husband, I'll tell you.

Lol, that's why I'll pay off my loans first before moving into my second career.

Just saw this - sorry for the delayed response.

It's part personality/innate skill set and part Hill experience. It's what I always wanted to do (went into law school knowing), so I got into it while in school with internships and relationship building. It's all who you know (both to get in and to succeed).

I'm also a Fed - mid 15, supervisor. But Fed leg affairs positions range from 9-13 for junior positions and 13-SES for senior roles, usually.

I did policy and am now am in compliance. Should have paid off law school loans first, but oh well.

Biglaw lawyer here. I have a few mid-to-large corporate clients whose COO's or CEO's rose through the in-house counsel ranks. They are by far the best execs to deal with as a lawyer because they understand that they can't do stupid crap.
