If he pays U.S. taxes or works for a U.S. company his wages can be garnished. Consult an attorney.

No OP it's not at all. Start the court process and a wage packet will be sent to his employer. Legally they have to garnish his pay and send it to the court. And they will send it to you.

So OP's lawyer's claim that interstate collection is so HARD rings hollow imo.
