Uh no. Elena is a very popular Russian name and totally fits as an Eastern European name.

I am an adult Elena and frequently get compliments on my name.

I like Emily too OP!

I am Jewish and also of eastern European decent. The name Elena has a very Hispanic connotation to me. That isn't a bad thing, but if you're going for something more Jewish and Eastern European I don't think Elena works. I personally would not use it. However if you changed it to Elana i think it sounds better and goes more with your heritage. Having said that I really like Emily Faye.

Elena is a good name, strong and pretty. I find the "Supreme Court test" asinine but in this case it really works - Justice Elena Kagan!

I like Elena if it's pronounced like Helena - emphasis on the first syllable (like Elena Ferrante). I don't like the eh-LAY-na pronunciation as much. And Emily/Emmie is a great choice.

Elena. There are so many Emilys and Emmies - seriously, l know three Emmies (Emma, Emersen, Emily, Emory) in 19 month old DD's classes.

Elena is so much prettier and infinitely less popular.
