My kids are 4 and 5 and jump on hotel beds. Hotel beds are exciting for them because they're queen or king sized as opposed to their twin beds at home. It's for like five minutes when they first get there, and they get their jollies out from sitting on the plane for hours. Then they hop down and are over it.

Obviously when they're around 7 or 8 I'll shut it down. But for now five minutes of jumping by two little girls seems fine to me.

I sure hope they jump up and down on the bed like they did this morning! That is sooo cute of them! I thought I was waking up to the sound of the ceiling caving in. What a riot they are! Hopefully we can become Facebook Friends before we leave this hotel. I'll bet they took some great fun family photos - would love to see those!"


No the fun family doesn't care what other people are thinking because they're worrying about their own lives and they're happy and having fun.

You sound ridiculous making a connection between kids being allowed to jump on a bed in a hotel room to stealing, teen pregnancy, and flunking out of school. You're making it harder for the people that actually have legitimate concerns or reasons why they don't allow it.

You all are being too defensive. OP didn't say her friend was big. She said her friend was not small. IOW, she's the size of an adult, not a kid. I have petite women friends who are smaller than my 12 year old; OP's friend is not like them.

Wow - my kids jump on our bed every night. Its our ritual - they jump on the bed while I change out of my work clothes. I never knew there was anything wrong with this? I mean, I know they might fall off but so far in 2 years of jumping with 2 kids we've only had one fall.

Man this thread is full of all of DCUM's resident 'cranky old person yelling to get off their lawn' types.

I don't understand how its possible to get this worked up over what OTHER PEOPLE do with their kids in their recreational time that essentially hurts no one and is about experiencing a tiny moment of childhood joy and excitement with your kids. We could all do with a little more of that :-/


It disturbs me (and others) because it's usually accompanied by yelling, loud laughing or squealing, the clunking of the headboard or frame, thuds when they land on the floor, etc. and the behavior doesn't stop there. When parents let their kids do this it's usually a sign that decorum as a whole is absent. And hotel walls are PAPER THIN. I can't tell you how many times I've been on a business trip and disturbed by children who are old enough to behave therm selves and be quiet. This thread is equally as full of entitled, oblivious parents who think their little brats can do whatever they want and the rest of the public be damned, "because they're just kids!!!"

First of all there is a GIANT difference between parents that indulge their kids a few minutes of jumping and even participate for a second to not be a giant hard a$$ and parents who let their kids run and jump and scream 24/7 in a hotel room.

Secondly, you're in a hotel, this is a risk you run. It is a public setting where a bunch of people are temporarily existing.

I mean I hate to break it to you but when you go out into the world you're going to encounter a lot of people also out there living their lives and they may not be doing things that are perfectly in line with you living a perfect life.
