I'm surprised you haven't heard about it PP. It's a big part of who she is. Here is another more recent article about them packing all their belongings into a VW bus and moving to NY while her mother was pregnant with her 7th child (and then getting there and the subsidized housing apartment wasn't ready!)

Eh. That hardly sounds harrowing. "We moved to NY and our apt. wasn't ready so we spent the night at a Holiday Inn and found a rental."
Do your own Google search then. 8 kids, one unsteady income, state aid and welfare, no electricity, free lunch, maybe not harrowing, but not exactly living the high life.
Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, the youngest of four children. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her mother remarried an often-out-of-work truck driver. They had four more children. Raising eight children on one income was extremely difficult, and the Parkers eventually turned to state aid and welfare. Parker has used the term “Dickensian” to describe her early childhood in Ohio. They often went without electricity, and they didn’t always celebrate birthdays or Christmas. Elementary school was rough on Parker. She wore hand-me-down clothes or clothes purchased from the thrift store. Parker remembers that her teacher would call out the names of the “free lunch” children, and they would have to line up at the front of the classroom before lunch. “It was a stigma thing. I was not the only person receiving a free lunch, but you are aware you are different,” Parker stated.

Why is she aging so poorly?

Why is she aging so poorly?
She's resisting Botox/fillers/plastic surgery. She looks her age, which is in sharp contrast to most women in Hollywood. She's not aging poorly, she's just aging normally.
Her hands look like grandmamas.

I've never heard this--can you share more info. / sources? Wikipedia says she had a pretty normal (preschool teacher / truck driver) family, and early training in dance & theatre (Broadway at 11), which doesn't exactly scream welfare.
I remember reading it long ago. Maybe I'm mistaken. I'll google around.

Here's one article.
''We were on welfare,'' recalled Ms. Parker, the curly-haired, slinky star and producer of H.B.O.'s ''Sex and the City.''
''I knew I was different from the kids who pay for lunch or bring their lunch from home. It was a stigma thing. I was not the only person receiving a free lunch, but you are aware.''
''I remember my childhood as Dickensian,'' she added. ''I remember being poor. There was no great way to hide it. We didn't have electricity sometimes. We didn't have Christmases sometimes, or we didn't have birthdays sometimes, or the bill collectors came, or the phone company would call and say, 'We're shutting your phones off.' And we were all old enough to either get the calls, or watch my mother's reactions or watch my parents shuffling the money around.''
I think I actually saw an interview with her a long time ago where she talked about it.

I remember her from Square Pegs. How about Annie? She was one of the original Annies on Broadway. Girl can sing.
Yes! And I remember seeing her in Annie when I was a kid!! I distinctly remember that day-waited so long to see Annie-tix must have been hard to get. And I remember that the original Annie, Andrea McCartle had just left the show and I was a little annoyed that I only got to see the "second" Annie! Also, it may have been the first time I realized that someone could use two whole first names as their name. I remember wondering if people called her "Sarah" or if they said the whole "Sarah Jessica" name and I thought that was weird. My mom told me that sometimes actors use their middle name because someone else in the actors' union may have the same first and last names- and they have to be original. I was probably 10 years old-I remember the whole day! The show was awesome and Sarah Jessica Parker looked really small to me but she could really sing (according to 10 year old me!).
