What other fancy stuff do you want to buy? IF this is really it, then it's fine. But if the $200k car goes with similar vacations, food, second home, clothes, etc you should go over your priorities first.

Investing in a house has a better ROI which is why people feel more comfortable with it than investing in consumables like cars.

How about renting the car he craves for a month? Even at $10k or something exorbitant he can see if he really wants it before taking the full plunge.

Are your kids' college funds fully vested, do you have life insurance, a retirement plan? Plan for if DH loses his job? Have you paid off your house?

Take this time with a fun step to also make sure you are 100% grown up -- meet with a financial planner (no investment advice, just running the #'s and getting insurance)

Seems like you can afford it, but a 200K sports car is a lot of car. He might want to start with something a little less demanding and work up from there. Also, he can take a lesser car and get real instruction on how to drive high performance cars without worrying too much about balling it up.

The people I know who drive very expensive cars also have foundations that do a whole lot of good. The cars (yes, plural) really aren't that expensive to them.

They are young. Making good money. I don't get, how it's okay to buy more house but not car. They are fine, money wise. Live a little. The joy of driving a powerful one. I had a neighbor who changed cars every year (bad year - 150k car, normal year - 400-500). He loved it. Yes, it's a loss. Experience vacation is a loss, expensive wine is a loss. He loved cars. I guess some people just don't love cars. I don't like houses.
