You know, many years ago I named my kid "Mario." He is named after someone dear to us who passed. Kids ask if a) that's really his name, and b) where's his brother Luigi? His best response thus far has been that Mom keeps Luigi locked in the basement. Kids develop coping skills. If you like the name and are informed about the possible repercussions, go for it.

OP, while the name may sound cute, I do think it is both anachronistic and problematic. Surely there is a name you and your husband can agree upon which conjures up fewer blatantly controversial images. I think it is good to remember that the name has to be owned by a person who may very well wish she didn't have that name. It's a hard name to pull off.
