Angela Merkel voted against same sex marriage on the snap ballot in Germany yesterday. She said although she wants same-sex couples to have the right to adopt, she believes "the marriage in in Germany's constitution is the marriage between a man and a woman." She said lawmakers are free to vote their conscience and said opposite views must be respected. The measure passed the Bundestag lower house with 393 for, 226 against and 4 abstaining.

So: Merkel?

yes, it does. Nobody will want to turn to him in a time of crisis. I think it is Macron. The French are leading on everything these days. Energy. Science.
The French are inconsequential in most spheres of influence today. I say this as someone who loves Paris and has spent quite a lot of time there over the years. The Germans are in ascendancy when it comes to Europe. France is militarily inconsequential ......... France was at its zenith as a sphere of influence over the past century during the era of De Gaulle. Macron is an upstart and he will prove as insignificant as most French presidents since De Gaulle.
But nothing to beat a Parisienne boulangerie .......
You mean the boulangerie whose bakers are Moroccans and Algerians?

History demonstrates that times when there is no single dominant force in the world tend to see more conflict that times without one, but that's what people voted for, I guess. I'm sure they knew what they were doing and will be thrilled with all the outcomes. I'm just a liberal elite born to brown immigrants, so what do I know of "real Americans"?
