I don't know if it's different now, but years ago when I went to William & Mary, I had a lot of alternative-bohemian prepster friends who'd gone to the top boarding schools in New England and in the UK.

A website of people from the wrong generation probably isn't the best place to go.

My take, the differences among the elite LACs are minor, after you deal with important things like majors offered.

I suppose bohemian preppy could exist. My high school had preppy rednecks. Something that I've had a very hard time describing to people.

Disagree. When I visited St. John's, I saw a lot of guys in coat & tie. I asked a lot of students there where they went to high school, and several attended northeastern private day/boarding schools that use the Harkness method. Most kids are hipsters, but there are a good number of preps at SJC. Not sure about far right but you can be a libertarian type, but also be boho and preppy.

In any case, for OP - Williams, Dartmouth, and Reed come to mind.

I went to Reed. Reed like other LACs listed in this thread has a lot of kids who went to prep schools (as in selective, college preparatory private high schools) and who want a rigorous education at a LAC, but are alienated by preppy culture and are more quirky, alternative types. I know a couple people, for example, who went to Choate then Reed who are both crunchy, hipsterish, and alternative types.

Lots of preppy kids at Conn College. Lots of alternative, bohemian kids too.
