I travel a lot and bring my own items. I also take home the hotel toiletries and keep them in a drawer as "guest toiletries" that visitors can help themselves to.

But for guests, I'll put out a little basket of sample size items. I get a lot of them in random beauty boxes and as freebies with orders from places.

I keep a small bag of toiletries in my travel bag so I always have them. I am happy to lend whatever I have to guests. I save tooth brushes for that very purpose to always have on hand (new ones of course!). I save hotel sized things for guests so they don't feel bad using them

At houses I stay at frequently I either buy toiletries and leave them there or they provide them. I always just use the shampoo and conditioner at the houses I stay at. I was frustrated that MIL's bathroom didn't have anything in it, so i stocked it up at Walmart one visit. I assume she never uses that bathroom so she didn't know there was no handsoap or anything. I also bought a trashcan because it felt intrusive to keep bringing my bathroom trash to their kitchen to dispose of it.

It's weird to share toothpaste though... I have a sample one in case someone forgets theirs but wouldn't share my own.

Tie. I go overnight to my parents every couple weeks and even then I bRing everything but handsoap. It's just all in my travel bathroom kit. Not that hard. I don't bring a hairdryer though and I have one for guests if they need it.

LOL. No controversy here. OP is just a bitchy DIL. And her MIL is family, not a typical house guest.

I have wall-mount hairdryers in all our full bathrooms because I want my home to be welcoming to all my guests, relatives and visitor. I also keep ample toiletries for all my guests including disposable razors and toothbrushes.

We only have one bathroom upstairs so I assume my guests are using anything that's in there except my toothbrush (if someone didn't bring one, I have extras and would give one). Deodorant is in my bedroom and that's something I wouldn't like to share. But everything else is fair game. If I like them enough that I've invited them to stay with me, I like them enough to share a tube of toothpaste and some shampoo--none of my stuff is so fancy or expensive that I need to conserve it. If they have a special brand they like to use, they should bring it with them.

As for what I do--if I'm going to my parent's house, I just bring a toothbrush because I know they're well stocked. If I'm going to a friend's, I'll bring most things but if they already have soap and shampoo in the shower I might use it just because I'm lazy and don't want to get my stuff all wet and bring it back and forth into the shower.

I stock my kid's bathroom with stuff for guests. Just get a small basket and keep it in your linen closet. It can be all the guest supplies. Lotion, toothpaste, make up remover wipes, whatever. That way they aren't using your stuff, it's the communal "guest stuff". Show her where it is and tell her to help herself. Or even better, leave it on her bed before she arrives.

I am very picky about my toiletries so I always bring my own except maybe hand soap and shower gel. I can't imagine depending on the host for your face creams!
