As long as the younger person is 18+, a four year age difference isn't a big deal.

I can't even imagine having sex with someone 20 years older than me...gross.

DH and I are 4 years apart. Starting dating when I was in college and he was on the same campus for grad school. Happily married (in our 40s).

Age is just a number. Maturity level and common interests aren't tied to age.

When I was in my 30s, I dated a woman just out of college. The difference was noticeable. I married a woman 8 years younger than I. The difference was noticeable when she was in her 20s, but now that I'm almost 60, it means nothing.

Four years? Lets see....(* means illegal in many states)

8 & 12 big deal *
10 & 14 Big deal *
12 & 16 Big Deal *
14 & 18 big deal
16 & 20 deal
20 & 24 maybe issues
24 & 28 Meh
29 & 33 My wife and I when we met...Meh
49 & 53 Is there a difference? Yes. Her taste in music is about 4 year later than mine. She knows music from 1987; I don't. On the other hand I remember the moon landing. I can claim to be Baby Boom; she is certainly Gen X. I win. Bwa ha ha....(oh, in terms of maturity, she is 60, I am 8)

It's really not a big deal. BUT if they break up, pressure him hard to date much younger women and foreign women. For a guy, it's healthy to get out of the American mentality when it comes to dating/relationships.

I know a 27yo dating a 31yo, and at that age, the difference is noticeable. (Life experience) But a 38yo dating a 34yo doesn't. Thoughts?

I know people with larger age differences that dated younger. My guess is this is a specific life experience/maturity difference that could happen between two same aged adults that you're noticing... I know when i was in college, I was much less mature than some of my friends who got married at 19 or 20 and were supporting themselves at that age. And by 27, I was married, pregnant with my second child, had a house and a professional career... so I'm guessing because of these experiences, I was more mature at that age than your friend.

I'd say in general though, post-college, this isn't a big age difference in and of itself.

I was 37 dating a 44 year old woman for years. We're still good friends to this day. Age is just a number...

Am I right that you've asked about a post-25yo, FOUR YEAR age difference? That doesn't even register, Jesus. When you're talking 7+ years difference with a partner under 25 you'll have my attention.

My BIL is 7 years younger than my sister. NBD. Met when he was 24 and she was 31. Two kids, they're blissfully happy.

That's a poor investment
