Indeed, I was around and as an adult then, I never considered her a sex symbol. Maybe if you were still in middle school at that age - maybe? But if I think of the "sexiest" women from back then I think Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Gisele, Halle Berry, JLo, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, etc. And probably dozens more who were way “hotter” than Britney. She had a few fun songs and was a good dancer, but that's about it.

There were many women I personally found more attractive (some you listed), but there is no denying how sexually Britney was portrayed and viewed by the public in her late teens/early 20s.

So maybe the media was pushing it, but that doesn't make it true.

How old were you? Maybe it was a kid thing? Like Hanson.

Young adult (mid-20s) living in a large US city. I don't think she was "loved" as in having tons of huge fans (at least adults). My friends and I would joke-dance around to her music sometimes when we were getting ready, but that was it. No one was trying to see her in concert or would play her music at a party. Definitely not on my "cool" playlist on my MP3 player.

I think she and her handlers had more to do that with that, and then the public went along with it.

She doesn't look all that different to me. Maybe her teeth, or maybe she's just smiling differently and her face has aged a bit.

She definitely had some work done, but I prefer this Britney over 2007 Britney with the shaved-head.

She's a sweet, kind, resilient person with a lovely personality. That matters much more than her looks.

NP here, she absolutely was a huge sex symbol in that era. She had the younger guy set lusting after her and her people created that Lolita image to appeal to older men (which was pretty gross).
