DC would have gone to Dartmouth. If I were looking now I might have too, but when I was considering colleges it was a different place (only recently gone coed). Many of the colleges I loved when we visited with kids were not as appealing 35 years ago.

DC, who is completing first year at UVA (no snow this year!), would say this is UVA, except she has not been happy with the dorm food but loves Charlottesville food. She loves it there. I am very grateful we found the "right fit" for her and wouldn't change anything. And the right price for us. Other child? Wish they had gotten into UVA.


I'm the PP who wrote the list above that doesn't exist. It's funny because I am a UVA grad. I don't think UVA is particularly undergrad focused at all. I'm a double legacy and met my DH there, but I don't think UVA is right for everyone.

I just looked up this school and the tuition without fees is $42,993. The OP mentioned "low tuition", so that's not a match.

The majors (or as they call them, constellations of interest) are interesting. They don't have an area of study my child wants to pursue, but I will admit that I'm intrigued by the difference in this school's philosophy.

College of the Atlantic. It's in a peaceful place, focuses on the whole person and welcomes the creativity and innovation of quirky kids. I would have gone there if I could. State school was fine and the price was right but still...
