I'm very happy with the Wheaton-Glenmont Pool.

We pay about $800. One child does swim team and they go most days a week with their summer babysitter, either after camp or during off weeks, and we all go on the weekends.

My word. I'll stick with the free public pool if that's what the other options cost...

Right. That's much cheaper.

How often do you actually swim?

I pay about $700, which really is a bit too much money for how much we use it (only on weekends since kids are in camp/daycare) but honestly, the other option is really no pool, which really sucks in the summer. Plus, we hold DC's summer birthday party there, which is basically free, so we think of this as another way to maximize our pool membership.

Agree. We live in the Ft. Hunt area of Alexandria and paid $1,500 the first year - dues and equity - and every year thereafter is $450 plus $50 a head. My kid is on the swim team, and spends every day there in the Summer. Worth every single penny!

membership at these pools is limited so they are never really crowded. plus you can bring food, drinks, they have grills and refrigerators, snack bars and nicer than average bathrooms/changing rooms. That is what the $1200 is for.

You haven't been to Palisades pool. And, no, its not crowded. Bethesda pool and other public pools? Yes. Which is why you pay for the private pool.

OP you answered all my questions from an earlier post. I'm pretty sure I know what pool you're thinking of. At age 5 your kid might be ready for developmental swim team, if you're interested. It's less intense and the practices are in the late afternoon. At your stage of life, we did the August option but in later years because of the social aspect we went full summer.

wowza. I'm going to say no unless camp is only parttime and you want to spend a LOT of time at the pool. if you just want a place to splash around a few times on weekends, hell no. the dumpy public pool works just fine for that.
