Actually that is exactly what is happening in Bmore. DC workers priced out of homes here buy there and commute.

Yes, this is the market for Baltimore City. Most of the feds and anyone making under 100k a year is getting priced out of DC proper.

OP, you can't be more correct! Gentrification will definitely save Baltimore. It is common knowledge that the presence of white people make every place better. Before whites gentrified America, this place was forest and savages. Until white people gentrified Africa, Africa was inhabited by primitive civilizations. If it weren't for gentrification, Asia wouldn't have developed gun powder, architecture, or spices for food. I wake up everyday, and give thanks to white jesus for making white people so that the world can be a better place.

All the government subsidized loans, tax freebies, incentives, and step-up in basis accounting (thanks to Uncle Sam). They and their heirs are the biggest welfare queens of all.

We debated living in Baltimore and having him commute to DC, but Baltimore's public transportation meant we'd still need to own 2 cars, and given the areas we could afford decided it was just easier to live in the suburbs. Baltimore City really needs to improve its public transportation system.

Absolutely. The problem is the whole Baltimore City/County setup. County voters will never vote for anything that puts money into the City and the City can't get anything done transit wise by itself.

It's very sad.

Long-term, sustained investment in education and jobs is the answer not freaking gentrification! Geesh!

LOL!! I think he is too busy trying to get UA back on track. Not sure if you have seen their recent numbers.

Besides that, he is already driving the big development/campus downtown. He can only do so much.

Does Baltimore have a charter program? I think if they did, and if they attracted a boatload of companies with major tax incentices, then it could transform. The lack of jobs and schools is the problem IMO.

People who HAVE to live there.

And they're the ones who's plight is always forgotten about in discussions like this.

I'm a black women born and raised in DC and still live here and recently went to an event at the Royal Farms arena. While there, we drove around and boy Baltimore is a depressed looking place. Not sure how we ended up on Monument Street, but who would want to live there?

That's only partly true.

They'll happily subject YOUR white kids to a violent, failed educational system in the name of diversity.

Just not THEIR white kids.
