Women may want an equal or greater than partner, but men want a better looking or younger than partner. Yes, there are losers and winners, but what about the average Joes?

Sure, if you are in a corporate setting, this may be true. Bosses will bring up those who are like them.

But it's not a knife's edge. High stakes success or else bring an economic loser. My dh isn't the bro, alpha type who will be a c suite.

He makes a lot of money being himself, in a high-intelligence (nerdy) field. His clients love him. He's a public figure practically and he doesn't need to be a certain way to be successful.

Op, let's just say, on the odd chance you are someone I know. I would kindly tell you, with tough love, to set some goals, get an education, work hard, find a lady who loves you, trust her and support her, and use middle-class financial wisdom to build wealth. Don't get hung up on the fact that 10% of men are bros and will get the CEO job. I've never met a CEO that I liked.

The amount of crazy in this thread is astounding. Do you know what a bell curve is, OP? Do you understand mortality rates? Women living longer is not a function of privilege, it's because we do less stupid shit like shooting ourselves, jumping off cliffs, etc.

Men are expendable. Case in point the bring our girls back campaign. Not even a whisper when the Boko Haram were killing school boys by the dozens. Hundreds if not thousands died and they left girls alone. Once they kidnapped the women...we see these hashtags.

Women choose to exit the competition, by a declaration of being done with men, by excluding men who insufficiently resemble an affluent movie character, by not fighting the weight battle, and through choices in appearance and lifestyle. I know someone who grumbles about feeling invisible, but she makes specific decisions to be just that.

To the extent that women pursue men with resources, that's a function of a patriarchal structure in our society that has prevented or limited the ability of women to acquire similar resources directly. This can't be waved away by saying they have equal (or near equal) rights or opportunities now. Social habits that are thousands of years in the making can't be unmade in a generation or two.

The guys who are one the have-not side of the ledger, losing women to the guys on the have-side of the ledger shouldn't be so dismissive of the idea of patriarchy or male privilege just because they aren't the primary beneficiaries (or even if they are actively harmed by these things.) "Male privilege" (which probably needs a better name) can hurt men too.
