I think this is an interesting cultural issue. I know in my suburban area, the rich people tend to segregate themselves into elite sports that are mostly white. Baseball, golf, horseback riding, hockey, lacrosse, ice skating.

I don't really know. For myself, I just like going to Camden Yards to have some beer and eat some peanuts on a nice day, and cheer for the O's. It reminds me of going to ball games with my Dad as a kid.

As a non-white, I simply don't have three plus extra hours in a day to pay to sit around eating overpriced food and drinking overpriced beers.

DH and I have to work extra hard during the workweek just to feel that we're as valuable as the white man or woman in the next office, not to mention we don't have the luxury of knowing we have mommy and daddy's trust fund to fall back on.

On the weekends, we take care of our home, do errands, clean our house, and a number of other things that white people have the extra funds to pay someone to do, because they get paid more and have more opportunities just for being white.

Yes, I think the far more interesting question is what the F do white people get out of watching boring baseball games? Black people simply are not as boring as whites. Maybe we need outreach to help white people find more interesting hobbies.

I'm the PP quoted. Not sure why you responded the way you did. I wasn't expecting anything or spreading conspiracy. I merely pointed out the sport is not popular among non-white kids in my part of town.

An image that has stayed in my mind is the juxtaposition of the initial Baltimore civil unrest and nearby baseball fans. The real and the phony, as personified by a stadium perhaps designed to capture the 'old time feeling of a day at the ballpark' as poseur hipsters sip from overpriced cans of beer.

So does that mean we need to tell white people they need to go to more Wizards games and blacks that they must become fans of baseball and hockey? Maybe we need quotas for all sports fans. Or do packages - for every Nats game you must go to a Wizards game?
