it really depend on what/where you are thinking of. Personally, I would have my child retake anything under a 1500, if you are aiming for ultra competitive schools. If you aren't, though, there's no reason to.

And if a 1490 was with very little prep and you do plan to retake, get prep. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

With perfect 36 and 1600 scores getting rejected by schools with 5% rejection rates -- I see no point in testing and testing to make a magic number.
