Good question. At our school (not Title one), the principle makes the decisions about aftercare, but I think that a PTA committee is in charge at other schools.

Wow, Mann is $700/mo? That's ridiculous. Why is it so expensive? I am assuming this is a home-grown program? Are all the enrichment-type activities included, which could bump up the cost?

Barnard parent here. Movies/tv are occasionally shown during aftercare, mostly on rainy/snowy/really cold days and if there's special treat like the last aftercare day of the year. Definitely not enough to be concerning. Lots of play, drawing, and outside time, weather permitting for Prek3 and 4 (my experience to date). This year in PreK4, my kid has been learning spanish. I don't expect a curriculum for Prek-to K aftercare. Its about play at that age. Yes, current teachers and aides cover general aftercare, i.e. not the special activities for the older kids like soccer. My kid has loved both of his aftercare teachers who are not his regular teacher. No complaints here.

Mann doesn't have pk3 and has limited space for pk4. Not sure what you ate ranting about.

OP here - how can there be such a big difference between Stoddert and Mann? It is the same neighborhood....

That's quite a lot. We pay only $200-$220 at Stoddert, but younger one will go to Mann.

OP here - the nearly $ 700 was quoted to me at H. Mann ES.
I currently have an au-pair kind of situation, so I know it's cheaper that way, but I am thinking of not doing that any longer and switching to aftercare instead. Our place is not big, so having an additional person living with us is not ideal.

Me again - Also fyi, when I asked about the aftercare during a tour, they told me its staffed by the classroom aides/assistants. I wasn't thrilled about that as that is a really long day for them and I am sure they are exhausted but I guess it's a way they can make extra money. I had heard rumors there was a lot of TV shown...which I will not be happy about if true...but, I live right nearby and every single day I see the kids outside running and playing so I am not sure how accurate the rumor is. We are optimistic.
