PP who suggested an au pair. We have a FT nanny for 40 hours a week (2 kids), and with taxes, etc. it's about $20.50 an hour. Plus, the oldest goes to PT preschool 5x a week, and the youngest goes 1x a week, so the nanny is not watching both kids all the time. It's more than $43K a year with bonuses, etc. I suppose it would cost less for a live-in; however, I don't think it would only be $10-12 for 3 kids under 4.


I've had an au pair and I don't think there are many you would want to leave alone with 3 toddlers all day. The au pairs can be a real mixed bag...its not their fault necessarily but it just is what it is.

I really don't think you are going to get a good nanny for that. We have a live in nanny who we pay $15 an hour for 3 kids- plus we do pay time and a half overtime. Also- don't underestimate how much more your groceries/ electricity/ water usage will be with another adult in the house who has no incentive to try and keep costs down.

Au pairs are much cheaper, in the $1500-1800 range per month, because you are providing room and board for them too. OP if you have flexibility to have someone live with you this would greatly reduce your child care budget.

We would have room for a live in nanny... that's a great idea. I would need to go through an agency correct?

Dumpster playground is called Monarch Christian Montessori.
Nearby is The Learning Experience, Freedom Montessori, Imagination Learning Center.

PP here-that is surprising. I always assumed it was kind of a Daycare of Last Resort place. Literally the playground is right next to the dumpster-its awful.
