Pretty much. Our neighborhood school is actually not that bad, but I would prefer a language immersion program because I think that learning a second language while young is great, and I submitted my son for the montessori program because it starts at prek and he stays home during the day but is very ready for school. But I sort of don't want the kids at separate schools.

Not necessarily. The way the lottery works is that it doesn't include the kids that are sibling placements. It also doesn't take into account the people who have several placements. You can't state a preference, so they just choose a placement for you based on school needs. As an example, when the Spanish Immersion schools first opened, they placed people who listed SI as a choice there first. So it is really hard to figure out what's what from those raw numbers.

Does anyone have any insight on wait list chances with the Spanish Immersion program...our wait list number is in the low 30's.

I'm assuming the second round of placement letters go out after April 18th?

I don't believe that is accurate re: Dora Kennedy. Our son was 94 on the online wait list. We just received a letter saying he is wait list spot 4. That leads me to believe they only let 90 kids in initially.

Your son is 3 and it looks like he probably got a spot in the Montessori school (which one?)
Your daughter is entering K and she definitely DID get a spot at Dora Kennedy French Immersion.

So you have 2 very good choices. Do you like French immersion in general? The school in particular? Send your daughter there and deal with having two kids in two different schools for 2 years. Yes it is hard but it is just 2 years. Then you can send your son to French immersion as well with sibling preference.

Or, send your son to the half day Montessori program and your daughter to a full day Montessori program for one year. It will be a pain because you have to figure out after care options for the half day program. But it will be a pain for just one year. Next year your son will be full day Montessori and your daughter with a year of private Montessori, should be able to do the lottery for grade 1 Montessori. I'm not sure if sibling preference applies at grade one since it isn't an entry year though. If not, she could stay a year at the private Montessori and try again the following year.

So you have 2 years of uncertainty either way.

I had a friend with a kid in the 50s for K last year and he ended up with a spot.
