Looks like Chaffetz is at it again. This came across my neighborhood listserv and included city council.

The Congressional Committee in charge of DC is quietly moving to overturn DC’s “poop scoop” law. Rep. Chaffetz calls it a case of “correction local government overreach into the private lives of pets.”

Late tonight we learned that Rep. Jason Chaffetz, in his capacity as chairman of the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has taken steps toward overturning one of DC’s clean environment laws – DC poop-scoop law (900.7 and 900.8 in the DC Code), on the grounds that “the DC government has no right to intervene in the normal way that privately-owned pets can relieve themselves, following their own God-given nature.”

In a bill titled “The Canine Freedom to Eliminate” Act, a dog owner in the District of Columbia “cannot be compelled to serve as a toilet attendant to an animal.” While Rep. Chaffetz declined to answer any questions about the bill, his chief legislative aide, Braun T. Urhd, commented, “It’s typical of the ‘nanny state’ mentality of DC government to try to make people pick up after someone else. We don’t want this type of government mandate. It is within Congress’ purview to set it right, and that’s just what we intend to do.”

They were CONSTITUENTS!!! If you reside in Chaffetz's congressional district, you had every, single right to be at the town hall and ask a question or voice your opinion. This wasn't a love fest/slumber party for all his BFFs. That's what a town hall is, a gathering of constituents to discuss issues important to them. I guess not enough of his uber Mormon republican fan base voters stayed home.


What does a Mormon family constituent look like? Do you know any Mormons? Have you ever been to Utah? Word to the wise...Mormons look like anyone else. I know several and you'd probably be shocked that they are pretty normal looking people so your assumption that they didn't show up is pretty ignorant. Not to mention, not everyone who lives in Utah is Mormon. Saying this shit is just as bad as when Trump told his bullshit story (now know to be a false story) of the German golfer who walked into the voting station in Florida and recounted seeing many people who "didn't look like they could vote" - typical racist bullshit from the idiot in the White House. The people who attended Chaffetz's town hall were his constituents even if he wants to peddle his fake news of paid participants. He's going to have to face the music - people think he sucks and are actively working toward his defeat in the next election. And remember, Mormons were not huge supporters of Trump so it would not be surprising that they showed up to call out one of Trump's Congressional minions.

Nope. He tried claiming they were from out-of-state yet had no evidence of that. But more to the point, the Republicans got together and many of them decided to have their town hall meeting on the same night to try and foil any attempts at being targeted by outsiders. But as it turned out, ALL of the Republican town halls were packed, there was no need for outsiders.

Many Utahns are genuinely pissed at Chaffetz! Diane Black's and others went poorly for the GOP as well.
