My elderly, white European mother was detained along with my elderly, Asian father for more than FOUR HOURS at Dulles last summer. For no good reason, since they were released without being asked A SINGLE QUESTION. They said they waited with many other people, mothers with babies, etc. The practice of detaining people for hours is sadly rather frequent, and stupid, since most of the people they detain are not interrogated at all, they are just made to wait without food or water (there are bathrooms). Or maybe it's just a random policy of intimidation?

Yes CBP can ask you to hand over your phone and look through it to look through your social media apps. I haven't flown internationally recently, but friends have told me this.

For those asserting that CBP can't/won't hold citizens. Sure maybe for now they are being let through after a lot of questioning. But this EO was implemented without prior notice, so no one saw it coming. I am American-born, but also Muslim whose parents were born in a Muslim country that isn't on the list yet. I would not take the chance of going overseas because I can't guarantee that my own government won't put out a stricter EO. Nothing is guaranteed in these uncertain times. You may think I'm being dramatic, and I'm happy that you have had the fortune of never being in this position.

Well, not yours. But mine shows that I was born in Illinois.

DD was born outside the US but is a citizen. We are traveling to Europe in 6 weeks.

This is definitely an issue that has crossed my mind. I have signed a lot of petitions (with name and address) and shared a lot of FB posts and articles over the last six months. I want to think I'm just being paranoid, but I don't think this is completely out of the realm of possibility.

Thank you for making this point. People are detained sometimes as a routine precaution. This has happened under *gasp* Obama and other former presidents no differently than it is happening now. Stay informed because context goes a long way in mitigating hysteria.

It's very different. They weren't denied entry or turned around with valid Visas and Green cards. Nice try though. OP- you should be concerned and take a lawyer's name and number with you.
