God, I wish I hadn't watched that. What an awful woman, to go on TV in an attempt to minimize her son's culpability. And what an awful TV program, to give her a sympathetic platform for her grotesque spin.

One of my mom's friends has a son (a kid I grew up around) who was convicted of sexual assault of a minor (victim was his teen step-daughter, but I'm not sure the extent of it). Anyway, the mom supported her son by hiring a lawyer (and she has very little money) and then helping him find housing once he was released, but she never defended him, made excuses, etc. As far as I know, she was upset and ashamed.

So I think it's fair to expect that while a parent may never stop loving their son or daughter, or supporting them, that doesn't mean you have to be in denial about what they did.

Really? I had a few of my college friends who would drink with their dads if they visited campus or when back home. My dad isn't a drinker, otherwise I would have done the same. None of us became murders. It js entirely plausible that they spoiled him and raised him to be quite entitled, and that may have very indirectly led to the crime. But George was an adult and I am having trouble seeing how his parents would be civilly responsible for his actions unless there are fairly unique facts to the case, which I admittedly only know the basics.

-1. I don't hold her responsible for his actions, but I do hold her responsible for her own. I have a son, and if he brutally murdered someone like this, I would not be out there defending him. I might still love him, but that would not prevent me from acknowledging that he had done something unforgivable.

Her son had alcohol and anger issues for years and neither of his parents addressed these issues.
