To the annoyance of my husband & kids, I listen to the Cure & The Smiths all the time.

my all time favorite - Split Enz

btw - loved Tracks, was there with my best gay guy pal when it was still so VERY gay! great fun for a straight gal who didn't want to hook up

You made my day, PP! I was listening to the Enz's "Waiata" album the other day in the car!

I was a member of the official "Frenz of the Enz" fan club. Bought stuff from fans in Australia and New Zealand and remember the long waits for records and posters to turn up via snail mail. Converted into Crowded House fandom when the Enz broke up and Crowded House emerged. I remember skipping out on work and going to wait for hours outside this bizarre venue in D.C. (no longer there) that I think used to be a roller rink but was used for concerts then (late 80s). Got to see Crowded House with Tim Finn in the lineup--the closest to seeing Split Enz I'd ever get, live, and it was here in D.C.

Thanks for bringing it all back, PP. By the way -- took my DC to see Crowded House at Wolf Trap just a couple of years ago. So proud to see her singing along....

I loved Tracks! It was the coolest bar - outside sand volleyball court!! Great dance music! I was at Nats Stadium years ago and a friend of mine pointed to a tall condo building and said that was where Tracks used to be. It made me feel so old! I was in college in DC at the time we went to Tracks and we somehow made our way there and I never really realized where it was!

are you kidding? This music defined who I was back then! it defined my life like no other music genre has, since. Just about every song I hear takes me back to HS and college, and memories of my first real love (BF). We connected because of our love for the same music. Now whenever I hear The Cure, Tears for Fears, OMD, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Echo and the Bunnymen....I think of him. Not in a weird way, just with fondness for how simple and carefree my life was back then.

And yes I have my Sirius radio locked on 1st Wave, not so much XMU though.

My iPhone is full of the same music too. Current playlist includes Gene Loves Jezebel, The Cure, INXS, Marshall Crenshaw, Pete Shelley, Psychedelic Furs, Romeo Void, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, The The.

Yep, they don't make music like that anymore.

Same here, I was in the "new wave" crowd back in college, black clothes, lot of hairspray, I would even don some eyeliner, and were bonded by the music and it's movement. I was fortunate to go to a college town thriving with music (Madison, WI) which many alt bands formed or passed through. Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Gene Loves Jezebel, Tears for fears....

Yes, life was different back then and seems like it was yesterday too, where did the time go.

Studio 54 was still alive during the 80's? And how do you get into these clubs at such a young age?

I'm 50 and used my cousin's EXPIRED ID back then. No one cared! I started going to clubs at 16. different times

Still got all of those on vinyl!

New Order had a new album in the last couple years and it is pretty good.

I'm going to Cry Fest: Cure vs The Smiths at the Black Cat next month. Join me!
