+1 It's one thing to have an agreed-upon division of labor where DH takes care of car maintenance. It's another thing entirely to claim helplessness and call DH "useless" because you are too lazy to go to a mechanic.

NP. My dh wouldn't be happy with me taking his car to a mechanic. He's convinced they all scam me because I'm a female and don't know what I'm talking about when I bring it in (this has actually happened). Use your own car then OP!

Actually, they might. Because you have chosen not to take the time to learn. When I walk into an auto shop, I come armed with information. And when they quote me a price, I challenge it if necessary. I can look up the price of a part. And I can calculate the average labor. It's not that difficult.

There was only ONE time when my DH questioned a simple car repair. I "gently"reminded him that if he wanted to have an opinion of my car repairs, it would all be on him.

If you don't know what you're talking about when you bring the car in, that's on you. It's not that difficult to learn.

Yeah, I find that hard to believe. OP sounds like she thinks to highly of herself to deal with anything requiring manual labor. Geez OP--find a reliable mechanic and take the car to them. Better yet, keep the car in your garage and only use public transportation.

You can get basic maintenance tutorials on YouTube. Or take it to a mechanic.

Subscribe to Washington Consumers Checkbook and find a good mechanic through them. I take the car to the mechanic and I completely trust the people we work with (Distad's at 9th and Penn SE by the way). All you need to do is read up on your car and learn about when it needs to be serviced - and just take it to a reliable mechanic. And call them on the phone when you have questions. It's not rocket science, really. You just have to get over the idea that your gender makes you too inept to do this.
