What's most odd about this thread is that it's gone on for 3 pages when the answers are consistently "no, it's not a thing."

I've never once in my life had anyone say anything mean to me about my red hair, and the same is true for my two red-haired children as far as I'm aware. I worry more about the kids getting a special snowflake complex about it than getting bullied - they're aware that it's something unusual that gets them lots of compliments. We've traveled in the UK a few times without any problems, but maybe it's different if you go to school there. I can't imagine there's a private/public school distinction though - I went to public school and my kids go to private.

Not at our school. I have never even heard that this was a thing.

Attended private school here in the 80's and 90's and no, this wasn't really a thing.

If this were a thing, which it isnt, why would it be limited to private school?

Actually, no one wants to say it but I will ... we actually have to sign a pact when we enroll our children in private school that the children will 'relentlessly bully' 'gingers'. EVERY kid has to sign (except the 'gingers', of course!). It is in EVERY private school EVERYWHERE!!!

Really? Is this the best you can come up with? If you don't want your child in private school then don't send him or her.

In the meantime, if you are consistently using such a high level of hyperbole in front of your children then be prepared for the fact that they are going to have problems other than your interesting concern about their hair color.

My two nephews are gingers and both are wildly popular with boys and girls!

I went to NCS and never even heard of the "ginger" terminology until the South Park episode.

Wouldn't she be in a better position than you are to know whether it was "relentless bullying"?

I was bullied for being a ginger but if it wasn't that it would have been some other thing.

Haven't heard my kids say they're bullied for being gingers though.
