I'm not impressed with Michaels lately - whenever I go in (usually the weekend/week before a holiday) lately, they are out of whatever I'm looking for. Or it's 70% off and they have none left. Shoot, I'd pay full price for a fun little craft kit, if only they had them.

I don't remember seeing much Hanukkah stuff at all in the new Michaels, around thanksgiving. Hope they improve things in the future!

I don't know if this would be true 3 years later (we've moved), but the most Hanukkah stuff I ever found was at the Target in Rockville. TONS of stuff.

Target in Rockville at stuff left, on the second floor at the front of the home decor section.

Alternative for Chanukah crafts - take your kids to any of the Chanukah Wonderland locations in the area, run by chabad. They always have fun Chanukah crafts that you can do there.
Here is the schedule for the Gaithersburg one:

Actually the store in Laurel had an end cap right up front with items.

You might want to swing by there.

When I went to the one in VA this week, they still had a ton of blue and silver sparkly things, especially in their flower dept.

I know it is not specifically Hannukah, but the colors woukd work if you wanted to decorate your house or mantle.
