Why aren't they concerned about the safety of water and air? Why do they not want to preserve natural beauty? Are they really that selfish that person financial gain is more important to them than the long-term health of the earth? I guess I'm naive, but I really can't wrap my head around how people can be so uncaring about the one planet we have to live on. Why would you deliberately trash it? Would you treat your owns home like this?
I'd really like to know the answer to this too. I don't know many Trump supporters, except one member of my extended family and her husband. She's a SAHM who doesn't follow politics closely, but finds Trump's message appealing. Her husband works as an overnight security guard. He is a somewhat angry personality who posts lots of pretty awful memes about HRC. He holds some unconventional views--for example, he follows a Facebook group called "Flat Earth Science and the Bible."
I have not asked either of them directly about their thoughts on environmental concerns, but my guess is that for people who feel marginalized economically, they're more interested in what's going to help them most immediately. Sort of like Maslow's hierarchy of needs--you have to take care of basic survival needs before worrying about anything else.
As for the more affluent GOP folks, I think they just care more about enriching themselves (although they'll probably say they're looking out for average Americans' jobs outlook) than any long-term environmental concerns.
