No help with the husband, but I started practicing all those sleep hygiene tips, and it helped. I cut out afternoon caffeine, read before bed, and go to bed/wake up at the same time everyday. Also, morning walks will help both you and your baby reset your circadian rhythms. If you can establish a regular schedule for your baby, that may help him or her sleep better at night too.

I've been there. Insomnia does suck and DH can fall asleep in 10 seconds and sleeps through anything. I take melatonin and it helps me to fall asleep but once I'm up I'm up. After 5 years he finally lets me sleep in on weekends.

OP I have the same insomnia problem intermittently (i.e. sometimes I can fall back asleep, sometimes not, and it usually coincides with other stresses/hormonal events like PMS) and it SUCKS. I've had different types of insomnia at differing shades of intensity for years and there is no perfect treatment ,as you know. I was really helped by a book called "Goodnight Insomnia" which is basically cognitive behavioral therapy. Worked for me when I was in a really acute phase of insomnia years ago and I revisit when I get desperate now as well. These days when I'm in a phase of insomnia I just tell myself it will pass, and it does, but it's miserable in the meantime. I have a 7 month ol DD, a 3.5 year old DS and work fulltime as a high school teacher, where I have to be ON at all times so I get it. Solidarity! Hang in there.

I don't understand why there are so many negative people on this thread. Some people can function on less sleep, some can't. I am one of those who can't. I told DH, if he wanted children then he has to help a lot during the night. He promised he would and he has definitely lived up to his promise. I would never procreate if I was stuck with all the child rearing (I am sure there are plenty of you martyr women who are willing to and so the human race can continue).

Go ahead. I do too. I cook a big meal and every time he waits 10-15 min. to come to the table, I guess his way of establishing his independence. He's grumpy and lazy and unwilling to do anything to discipline the kids. I end up the bad guy. If you treat your wife like this don't be surprised if she's a B.

Well, the US does NOT give lazy and entitled women a year off at the taxpayers expense. So, move to one of the countries where you pay 75 percent in taxes or stay here and shut up.

You're rather ignorant and misinformed. Their tax rate isn't 75 percent. Also these women pay taxes. So they are taxpayers themselves.

I can't imagine calling 50 percent of a population lazy and entitled. Maybe their country values women and raising children? Maybe their country wants women to be able to stay in the workforce while still having children. Maybe their country doesn't only want poor women to have kids. Maybe their country recognizes that maternity leave is similar to any other benefit, like retirement or sick leave.

How did you get to be such a mean person? What happened?

Can't you just turn your phone on do not disturb? I have mine preset to do that between certain times at night. I have family in various time zones who will call or text at random times - no way am I sacrificing what little sleep I get to waking up to a buzzing phone!
